Holidays are in full swing and employers are still looking for employees to perform seasonal work. HoReCA, construction or processing are just some of the industries in which there is a shortage of workforce. A LeasingTeam expert advises where else you can find interesting offers, for which positions employers are most often looking for and for what rates.

The holiday period is the time when there are the most seasonal job offers on the market. Although industry and production usually slow down during the holidays, in other areas, due to increased orders or increased tourist traffic, there is a need for additional employees.

Who hires?

From July to the end of September, additional activities can be found in tourism, trade, and gastronomy. These three areas often merge with each other, providing thousands of additional jobs and a chance to earn money during the high season. Job offers in holiday resorts, e.g. in seaside towns, are very popular among candidates. Already in May, the first job offers appear in restaurants, bars, hotels, in the organization of events, servicing holiday resorts, which during the sunny months experience a real siege of Polish and foreign tourists. This opportunity is eagerly used by young people who want not only to earn money, but also to take advantage of the attractions offered by tourist destinations. The summer months are an excellent time for the construction, renovation and related industries. Physical workers, e.g. builders or gardeners, will certainly find work. The demand for the support of additional employees, due to the time of harvest, is also growing in fruit farming and agriculture, and thus also in the fruit and vegetable production and processing industry.

Seasonal job offers are very popular among students, who during the summer break not only have the opportunity to earn money, but also gain valuable professional experience. The summer months are a good time for them to repair their household budget and the opportunity to do internships or apprenticeships.

During the summer holidays, many companies are willing to offer cooperation to people who are just entering the labor market. Internship offers will be found, m.in, by students of marketing, finance or technical faculties. The skills gained during the internship, as well as business contacts, may prove extremely valuable in the future – comments Marta Pilipowicz, Regional Director at LeasingTeam.

Where to look for job offers?

People looking for seasonal work are helped by online recruitment portals, local job boards and employment agencies that publish job offers on their websites. You can still learn about offers from traditional sources such as word of mouth or posters and announcements hung on advertising poles or in shop windows. Companies that specialize in recruitment delegate the most employees to their clients during the holidays. Employment agencies have the knowledge and a wide database of candidates, thanks to which they are able to recruit and hire new people quickly and efficiently. This means that many companies do not even try to look for employees on their own, but immediately contact employment agencies. It is worth bearing this in mind when looking for a job and registering in the database of candidates from recruitment companies.

When recruiting employees, we usually first browse our own database, which includes applications from candidates, also registered directly through the praca.leasingteam.pl portal. Through the LeasingTeam portal, you can apply without having to add your CV. All you need to do is fill out a short registration form – explains Marta Pilipowicz from LeasingTeam – By leaving their data, the candidate not only allows the recruiter to contact them about a specific job offer, but also gains a chance to receive tailored job offers in the future – adds the expert.

Criteria for selecting an employee

Employers have always valued people who are hardworking and committed. What also matters to them is availability, conscientiousness and readiness to take up work for a shorter time. Experience may be required for some jobs, although most jobs involve simple activities that are easy to learn.

Contract Duration

The period of employment and the duration of seasonal work will depend on many factors, including, for m.in, the sector or industry in which the company operates. These can be activities that last from a few days, such as distributing leaflets or servicing events, for several weeks in the case of replacements for holidays, even up to 3-4 months in the case of working in production.

Due to the short period of work, finding a person interested in the offer is not easy at all, although not impossible. In order to shorten the search time, employers often turn for help to employment agencies that have already hired candidates on the basis of temporary contracts in the past, even for a period of a few days or a week – comments the LeasingTeam expertThis guarantees employers reaching already proven candidates – adds the expert.

How much can you earn?

The amount of hourly rates depends on many factors. First of all, on the type of work, the employee’s experience or the region of Polish in which he or she will work. The length of the contract may also be important. In the case of offers where the time of work lasts, for example, only a few hours, a higher hourly rate may be an incentive to take up work. This is the case, for example, with the position of a hostess or animator of children’s games and plays, who will usually find work at the weekend in shopping malls or during outdoor events. However, the time of hiring an animator may be longer if he looks around for offers in hotels and guesthouses located in tourist destinations, which very often offer animations for children. During the tourist season, employees employed in the catering and hotel industry will receive attractive salaries. Although waiters, bartenders, kitchen helpers or reception staff very often receive a minimum wage of PLN 13 gross per hour, they also very often receive additional gratuities in the form of tips, a percentage of sales or accommodation.

The summer months are also a good time for employees in the renovation and construction industry. The greatest demand is for renovation teams, performing comprehensive services, from electrics and plumbing, through laying tiles and terracotta, to laying plaster and painting. We also welcome people as “handymen” who will carry out smaller orders related to finishing the apartment, e.g. hang a curtain rod or a chandelier. The rates, depending on qualifications and the type of work performed, range from PLN 13 to PLN 20 gross per hour.

Work abroad

People who would like to earn more can look for a job abroad. Currently, there are many Polish employment agencies that post Polish workers to work abroad. In the LeasingTeam Group, the company responsible for this area is CPC Consulting www.cpcgroup.pl, which posts employees to work in Germany, Austria and Norway. In the summer season, in the Netherlands, Spain or Germany, you can find work harvesting fruit and vegetables, e.g. strawberries or asparagus, or tending gardens. Here the salary will certainly be more attractive, and besides, it will be calculated not in zlotys but in Euro. However, it is worth remembering that living in Western European countries is more expensive than in Poland, so you should collect money for the trip beforehand.

So, dear Candidate! If, after reading this text, you still think that you no longer have a chance to find a summer job, be sure to browse recruitment portals and employment agency websites. Perhaps your future employer is waiting for your application!
